HARRISBURG (Nov. 6) — More than 3,000 people are expected to attend next week's premier North American Jewish conference in Washington, D.C., featuring major speeches by President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Among those attending the General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America will be Neiman Group Vice President and Director of Public Relations, Steve Aaron, who will be honored with the 2009 David Javitch Young Leadership Award for his volunteer service to Harrisburg's Jewish community.
Young leadership award recipients from Jewish Federations all across the country will be recognized during a luncheon on November 9, in the middle of the three-day conference. The Jewish Federations of North America represents 157 Jewish Federations and 400 independent Jewish communities. The Federation movement, collectively among the top 10 charities on the continent, protects and enhances the well-being of Jews worldwide.
"It is a tremendous honor to be among this year's young leadership award winners," Aaron said. "Harrisburg's vibrant Jewish community is blessed with many outstanding volunteers who I will be proud to represent in Washington next week. And I am thankful to work at an agency that encourages and supports volunteerism and community engagement. It would be very difficult to participate in these meaningful activities without that support."
The David Javitch Young Leadership Award is given "to recognize and honor a young person of outstanding promise who has demonstrated personal commitment, dedicated involvement, and exemplary leadership character in rendering outstanding service to the greater Harrisburg Jewish community."
Steve is an officer of the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg where he serves as vice president of marketing and public relations. As an active member of the Federation's Community Relations Council, Steve led a rally in support of Israel at the state capitol during the recent Gaza war in Israel and organized a 2008 presidential debate focused on issues important to the Jewish community. Steve also serves on the PA Jewish Coalition and recently completed a two-year Jewish leadership course.
At Neiman Group, Steve heads up the Public Relations practice group. Steve has been at Neiman Group since 2002. He was previously a top communications advisor to Governor Tom Ridge and a long-time television reporter and anchor.
