Five Neimanites will walk three days, camp out to fight breast cancer

HARRISBURG (Oct. 8, 2009) — Next weekend, the "girls" of Neiman Group will walk 60 miles to help raise awareness and $30,000 to support breast cancer research, education and community health programs during the Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-Day benefitting Susan G. Komen For the Cure October 16 — 18.

The Neiman Group team, For Our Girls, is made up of five Neiman Group employees: VP of Strategy & Insight, veteran walker and For Our Girls team captain Amy Muntz, and first-time walkers Senior Account Executive Cate Oyler, Account Executive Kelly LaMark, Account Coordinator Alex Wagner, and Account Coordinator Whitney Sheaffer. Nine others — friends of the Neimanites — will join these five women in Philadelphia to complete the team.

The cause is personal to all of the women who are walking in honor of friends and loved ones who are fighting cancer, those who have beaten it, and those who lost their battle with the disease. According to Muntz, the walk exists not only to help breast cancer fighters and survivors, but to touch the lives of everyone involved.

"What better way to put everything into perspective than to band together and fight something we know we will one day conquer?" said Muntz. "For the past few months, we've been immersing ourselves in the cause and doing all we can to prepare for what will undoubtedly be an empowering and inspiring experience. I'm thrilled to have four of my peers from Neiman Group join me this year to make a difference, but it doesn't stop with the walkers. We've had unbelievable support from family, friends, clients and even perfect strangers — all of whom have helped make our upcoming journey possible."

The three-day walk will take place October 16 — 18 when the team walks together across the entire city of Philadelphia, sleeping in the Pink Tent City (a camp of 3 Day Walk tents) at night. To physically prepare for the walk, the For Our Girls team has walked over 300 miles during the past three months.

To raise necessary funds and awareness of the team's participation in the walk, the agency has had some fun getting creative to give even more incentive for support. From a Beef, Beer & Boobs fundraiser at the Firehouse restaurant in Harrisburg, during which clients Dietz & Watson and Troegs Brewing Company graciously donated products, to the sale of For Our Girls t-shirts, there have been — and continue to be — plenty of ways anyone can help the team meet its $30,000 goal. Neiman Group has also made it easy to stay abreast of the cause and the walk through the pink takeover of the Neiman Group Web site, www.neimangroup.com, and the creation of the official For Our Girls Titter account, where followers can keep up with the team's latest Teets.

Today there are 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. More than 200,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in this year alone, and of those women almost 40,000 will die of the disease.
