Neiman Group Featured in Harrisburg Magazine as Top Four Coolest Office Spaces
NEIMAN GROUP, HARRISBURG, 12,000 SQUARE FEET
Advertising agencies are notorious for pushing the envelope in office design and certainly Neiman Group is no exception. Housed in the historical Old Waterworks Building with the Susquehanna River as a backdrop, Neiman Group, a premier award-winning full service ad agency, has one of the most distinct office spaces in the city. The mix of the old, the new and the quirky makes the building a fun place to visit and a goldmine of creative inspiration for the employees. "We have unique offices and they work for an ad agency," says Frank Coleman, Neiman's Chief Operating Officer, "but they would be a little avant garde for another business." True. What other company could get away with twisty stone caverns, a room filled with giant rusty filters (from the waterworks days), a mock apartment with graffitied walls, a pool table, a punching bag, a twin bed, and a drum set? And let's not forget the little white dog in the bandana. His name is Barkley. If it sounds like mayhem, it's not; every detail is carefully planned and positioned throughout the agency with one space transitioning into the next. It's a smorgasbord for the senses, but never overwhelming. "Every wall color and piece of furniture was concepted together," says Steven Neiman, President and CEO. "Every wall covering, every fabric was to enhance the building. There are so many different rooms, all unique spaces, but it still works." Neiman admits to being downright anal about the details, not just for the sake of style, but also function. The office chairs are airplane manufactured for comfort. There is an employee washer and dryer to allow for mutli-tasking home and work responsibilities. And green touches (like the wall made of crushed sunflower seed shells) to embrace environmental responsibility. The decor has been carefully crafted to attract the creative, off-beat and daring individuals who work at Neiman. "When recruits come here they see the attitude of our agency," says Neiman. And referring to the cost for constructing such and elaborate office space, he says "It's been worth it in so many ways."
